Our Vision

As parents of a 15-year-old autistic son, we have experienced the heartbreak that comes when our child has been rejected because he is considered  “not normal.”  My son works harder at learning than any kid I know. Surely play is important for any child; it is a huge part of childhood, and I know the stress that we as parents feel to provide play experiences for these our special children.  After much prayer, I have decided to do something about the lack of a play place and after school fun place for special needs children. This play place will be designed and dedicated for our amazing children. They deserve a place where they are welcomed, not in spite of who they are, but because of who they are. I am hoping that parents with autistic kids and other special needs children will join me as we build and run this dream place – The Autistic Kids’ Play Place.

Our Mission

The mission of  “The Autistic Kids Play Place” is to provide a welcoming, loving, safe and fun environment for children on the autistic spectrum and their families.    Why?  Currently there is no after school program or play place addressing this unique need in the bay area. Parents are hard pressed to find any after school program that will accept and help their kids have fun.  Even those after school programs, which do accept our autistic kids, are not designed for their unique sensory and auditory needs.Children who are diagnosed as being on the autistic spectrum have unique needs to play.  Most of them love water.  They love to play with flowing water and faucets.  They have unique sensory needs.  Many of them respond to horses.  The Autistic Kids Play Place will try to address as many of these needs by designing and building a play place.

This place will also serve families with kids who have special needs to come to as a play place.  This play place will have the rare distinction that all families who use the play place will understand each other and no one will be giving them “withering looks” because their kids, are not in the normal “box”.
